The Orange County School Board convened a closed meeting under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act to discuss personnel matters and later approved a package of personnel actions. The closed session was held pursuant to the Code of Virginia and the board certified that the discussion complied with state law before voting to approve actions brought out of the closed session.
According to the clerk, the board moved into closed session “pursuant to 2.2‑37‑11(a) of the Code of Virginia” to discuss the performance and employment actions of division employees, including resignations, terminations, transfers, salary adjustments and retirements. After the closed session the board read a certification prepared under section 2.2‑37‑12(d) of the Code of Virginia that its meeting complied with state open‑meeting law.
Superintendent Dr. Hornick recommended approval of the personnel actions as presented from closed session and the board approved the personnel agenda by voice vote. The motion approved a set of personnel actions described in the motion as including retirements, resignations, salary adjustments, summer school appointments, non‑renewals, new employment, transfers, rescissions of employment and extracurricular coaching appointments.
The board’s certification and the subsequent motion to approve the personnel agenda were recorded on the public minutes. The clerk announced the certification vote earlier in the meeting and later announced the approval of the personnel agenda by voice vote.
The approval implements the personnel decisions the board identified during the closed session; no additional individual personnel details were disclosed during the public meeting.
