The Piper Unified School District Board of Education approved the purchase of security cameras for the Piper High School athletic complex, authorizing a contract with Convergent not to exceed $46,000 to be funded from the 2022 bond proceeds.
A district presenter described the camera system as multiple 41‑megapixel units with optical zoom and a mix of crisscrossing views that provide 360‑degree coverage around the South Aquatic Building and extended coverage across the new football and track infields and softball/baseball areas. The presenter said tests showed much clearer images than the district’s existing system.
“If you knew the person you could recognize them right off the bat,” the presenter said of the camera tests, noting the system provides overlapping angles rather than single sight lines.
The board approved the purchase by a 6‑0 vote after a motion to approve the purchase from Convergent at a cost not to exceed $46,000; recorded votes included Armstrong, Bakeridge, Beshore, Biondi, Fergus and Bader.
The presenter said the cameras are intended to fill blind spots created by the placement of new press boxes and to provide monitoring of surrounding areas. The item was funded from prior bond proceeds; the board did not amend the bond authorization during the meeting.
