The Denison City Council unanimously approved a conditional-use permit Monday allowing a warehouse-style mini self-storage facility at 3109 South Woodlawn Boulevard.
City planning staff told the council the property is zoned commercial and that a permit is required to operate a mini storage facility in that district. "The applicant states within their project narrative that the facility will be accessible to tenants 24 hours a day with a camera monitoring system and a secured gate," Diane York, city planning staff, told the council. York also said the office hours are expected to be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and that any development must meet "all screening, landscaping, and parking requirements found within the chapter 28, the zoning ordinance, as well as any building and fire codes, and any applicable design or construction standards found within the public works design manual and construction standards."
Todd Young, the developer's representative, appeared at the hearing and offered to answer questions from council and the public. No members of the public spoke for or against the request. Councilman Thomas moved to adopt the ordinance granting the conditional-use permit; Councilman Dorn seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
Under the council's direction, the applicant must now submit a formal site plan, a bridal plat application and civil engineering plans for staff review and approval before construction or changes in use may proceed. York said utility extensions and other infrastructure requirements would be reviewed as part of those submittals.
