Orange County presents two properties for inclusion in Agricultural District No. 1; public hearing set

The Rules Committee received the annual review of Orange County Agricultural District Number 1 and heard that two properties applied for inclusion during open enrollment; the Ag and Farmland Protection Board recommended both parcels for admission.
Alan Sorensen, Commissioner of Planning, said one property is 13.2 acres on Lakeside Road in the Town of Walk Hill that currently operates with four barns and boards four horses with plans to expand to 10 horses by year’s end. The other property is a 36.2‑acre site at 345 Oak Hill Road in Middletown, proposed for agricultural planting research for hemp and operating under a license identified in the presentation.
Sorensen said both properties were visited by the Ag and Farmland Protection Board, which recommended inclusion in Agricultural District No. 1. The presentation was informational and the committee was told no vote was required at this meeting; a public hearing is scheduled for 06/05/2025 at 3:15 p.m. for the district enrollment matter.
Committee members had no questions at the time of the presentation. The county will proceed with the public hearing and the formal enrollment process under the county's agricultural district procedures.
