Legislature approves budget transfers to fund DA merit bonuses and related FICA costs

Putnam County legislators approved budgetary transfers May 22 to provide funding for merit and retention bonuses recommended by the District Attorney's (DA) office and to cover related FICA and contingency adjustments.
Commissioner Lewis presented a revised budget package after the DA finalized distribution recommendations for retention bonuses. "Before you is a revised, budgetary that has the retention bonuses FICA and the difference, a little contingency that needs to be used in regards to the FICA and the difference is that 60,000," Commissioner Lewis said, explaining the adjustment to the previously proposed $265,000 figure.
Committee members expressed appreciation for the DA's prompt submission of bonus distribution recommendations and approved the transfers by voice vote. Legislators asked that the DA’s office and Finance coordinate final reporting on the transfers and the agency-level reporting required to track the awards.
The transfer was approved in committee and will be reflected in the county’s amended budget lines; committee members thanked the DA’s office and staff for producing the necessary documentation for transparency and compliance.
