Terry Carroll told the Tompkins County Planning, Energy and Environmental Quality Committee on June 9 that the county recently received a federal payment tied to clean‑energy tax credits applied for in November 2024.
“We applied for almost...$1,786,149 in clean energy tax credits,” Carroll said, and the county received a check on May 30 “for a little over $1,800,000,” including $43,099.44 in interest for the delayed payment. Carroll said roughly $1,747,767 will be credited to the green facilities capital fund — the sum tied to a geothermal project at the public works facility — and that about $38,000 had been slated for the green fleet fund; the county plans to add the interest payment to the fleet fund, boosting it to roughly $80,000.
Carroll said staff had been concerned while the payment was delayed but welcomed the funds and their planned uses, which county staff said will support further facility and fleet decarbonization projects. Committee members congratulated staff and discussed next steps; Carroll said county representatives may discuss a related resolution with FNI (committee/board referenced in the meeting) at an upcoming session.
No formal committee vote or budget appropriation was recorded at the meeting; staff described the payment, the planned internal allocations and next steps for any formal approvals.
