Ulster County extends watershed delegation agreement with NYC DEP while new five-year deal is negotiated

Ulster County's Health, Human Services & Human Rights Committee on June 5 approved an amendment to the county's delegation agreement with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to continue administration of Section 18-38 of the watershed regulations for a short extension while the next five-year agreement is negotiated.
Deputy Executive Amenta said the county normally has a five-year agreement with DEP to inspect and administer septic systems near the watershed to ensure they are built and maintained correctly. "This is an amendment because we ran out of the 5 years; they're giving us a few months extension while we work out getting the next 5 years. It's all money to us, no cost to the county," Amenta said.
The extension allows the county to continue using remaining funds and to keep delegation authority in force until the new contract is executed. Committee members noted the program's popularity in parts of the county and heard that remaining funds will help with departmental digitization projects such as providing large monitors so engineers can view large DEP plans digitally.
The committee voted to adopt the contract amendment.
