Ulster County sets public hearing to align local board-of-health rules with state law

The Health, Human Services & Human Rights Committee on June 5 set a public hearing for July 15 on a proposed local law to amend county charter and administrative code language to mirror recent changes in New York State public health law.
Deputy Executive Amontae explained the state amended its law to allow contiguous-county residents to serve on local boards of health when those professionals serve the county in practice. "The state has amended its law to broaden who can sit on boards of health," Amontae said, adding the county amendment would "allow adjacent resident folks to sit on boards of health within a county" while keeping the expectation that they "still know our people."
The resolution (300) was adopted by the committee to schedule the July 15 public hearing. Committee members said the change is intended to give counties flexibility to recruit health professionals who live in neighboring counties but work in Ulster County.
