Emergency Services Board approves division of leftover FY25 scholarship funds and authorizes FY26 application release

At the June 11 meeting the St. Mary's County Emergency Services Board approved distributing approximately $6,100 in leftover FY25 scholarship funds among qualified applicants and approved the FY26 scholarship application for release on July 1.
Angel Lehi, Department of Emergency Services support staff, told the board that 11 people applied for the FY25 scholarship and that four graduates left approximately $6,100 in unspent funds.
"We had 11 applicants for the '25 scholarship. Out of the 11 applicants, 4 graduated this year. So we do have approximately $6,100 that remains from them graduating and not using all their funds," Angel said, and asked that the remaining funds be split among qualified applicants and routed to finance before July.
A board member moved to approve the division of the remaining FY25 scholarship funds among qualified applicants after June 30. The board approved the motion by voice vote. "All in favor? Aye. Any opposed? Motion carries," the chairman announced.
Angel also presented the FY26 scholarship application and asked the board to allow DES to post it on July 1. A motion to approve the FY26 scholarship and to allow DES to distribute the application to St. Mary's volunteer fire and EMS departments after July 1 passed by voice vote.
The board did not record a roll-call vote in the meeting minutes; actions were approved by voice vote and the motions carried.
