The mayor said the goal was to have a balanced budget to present for a reading at the June meeting but that additional adjustments might be necessary.
Finance and department staff walked aldermen through revenue estimates, fund transfers, and departmental line items. Several aldermen asked staff to verify specific revenue lines and to correct allocations they believed were in the wrong fund. Staff said some numbers had not been finalized because the fiscal year closeout was incomplete.
Board members and staff agreed to try to resolve outstanding additions and corrections before moving to balance the budget. The board asked for follow-up information on several line items and scheduled the tentative May 29 workshop so staff would have additional time to prepare. The mayor and staff said the May 29 meeting is contingent on there being no conflicting court calendar; aldermen asked staff to confirm availability before publishing a final agenda.
At the meeting’s end, Alderman Stewart moved to adjourn; Alderman Cleave seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote with no opposition recorded.
The board directed staff to continue reconciling line items, circulate requested back‑up, and prepare a balanced draft for a June reading. If further adjustments are needed, commissioners said the board would convene additional meetings before final adoption.
