Committee approves two new Class B tavern licenses with amended hours for one applicant

The administration committee approved two new Class B tavern licenses for applicants planning to operate restaurants or bars in West Allis.

Gabriela Morgan, agent for a business doing business as Frontage El Gase LLC at 5823 West Burnham Street, told the committee she and partners are Nicaraguan restaurateurs and said the location will operate primarily as a restaurant that will serve alcohol. The committee clarified licensing requirements, including that an operator’s permit requires direct supervision of other drink-makers or that bartenders obtain their own licenses. The license was approved with amended hours of 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Saturday.

The chair and inspectors confirmed the occupancy permit and building inspections were in progress and that the agent said she planned to be present while alcohol is served or will ensure bartenders are licensed. Committee members advised the applicant that the current license term expires June 30 and suggested she consider timing applications to avoid paying twice for the same licensing year; staff advised issuance timing is tied to the grant/issuance date.

The committee also approved a Class B tavern application from RW2 doing business as Shelby's National Tap at 9000 West National Avenue. Agent John Roots said the business will operate as a corner bar; he said parking arrangements had been made with an adjacent property to allow parking after 5 p.m., and that picnic tables were a possible future addition. Committee members recorded no opposition to either approval.

Both licenses passed by voice vote. No alderman recorded opposition.
