KIEL — The Kiel City Council awarded a public-works paving contract to Northeast Asphalt for $353,003.85 to complete repaving work at the Keyland Meadows/Keween Metals project.
City staff said bids for the 2025 pavement project came in well below the amount budgeted, with the low bid from Northeast Asphalt at $353,003.85. Staff recommended awarding the base contract to Northeast Asphalt and said a preconstruction meeting will set the schedule after council approval.
Council members approved the bid by motion. At least one council member cautioned that the city should guard against a low bid later becoming a larger expense in future years and asked that staff ensure quality controls so the lower base price does not lead to additional costs for repairs.
Staff said the city would proceed with the contract-award process, hold a preconstruction meeting, and publish a timeline once finalized. The project will be tracked through the Public Works department.
