Summary
A variance requested to place a 14-by-65 mobile home at 1002 Cuba Street was tabled after a city inspection found setback requirements could not be met with available space. The applicant and city counsel will pursue alternatives.
The Abbeville City Council voted to table a variance request to move a 14-by-65 mobile home to 1002 Cuba Street because the property’s available dimensions do not meet setback requirements.
City Engineer Kim said a premises inspection for property owner Mildred Sonier found available space of about 35 feet by 67.5 feet. The requested mobile home would be 14 by 65 feet, which leaves approximately 2.5 feet clearance and fails to meet the city’s setback requirements; Kim said the request was denied.
Councilwoman Broussard asked to remove the item from the agenda; Councilman Pleasance moved to table the item and the motion passed on a voice vote with no recorded opposition. Council members said they would stay in contact with the property owner and city counsel to explore alternative options.
No variance was granted; the item will be brought back at a later date after further work with the applicant and counsel.
