The Centennial School District Board of School Directors on June 10 voted 6–2 to table a proposed Act 93 administrators compensation plan that would run July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2029.
Board members debated whether to approve a multi-year contract that included a uniform increase across the term. "If everyone wants to agree right now to a 4% increase, that's fine. But our board usually does not do that," said Mrs. Clausen (board member), expressing concern about committing to large increases while the district faces a budget deficit.
Several board members urged the negotiating teams to return with a compromise similar to the previous agreement’s approach: a 1% guaranteed minimum with additional increases contingent on available resources and board discretion. Mr. Ginard and Mr. Hartline urged renewed negotiations; Mr. Hartline moved to table the item and the motion passed 6–2 on a roll call.
After tabling, the board approved a motion (6–2) asking the negotiating team and Act 93 representatives to seek a revised agreement that would keep a base minimum increase (described by members as 1%) and include a board-held escalator or discretionary higher adjustment if budget conditions permit. Board members emphasized that any final contract remains subject to majority approval by the full board.
Why it matters: the Act 93 plan governs administrators’ compensation; adopting a multi-year, contractually-guaranteed increase would commit local tax dollars and affect the district’s budget trajectory. The board’s decision defers a binding commitment and asks negotiators to seek a hybrid approach.
Next steps: the board’s negotiating representatives will meet with Act 93 leaders to attempt a revised agreement that reflects the board’s guidance. The revised proposal is expected to return to the board for a vote before the July 1 contract start date.
