Court authorizes county auditor to solicit RFQs for outside audit services

Washington County Commissioners Court authorized the county auditor to solicit requests for qualifications (RFQs) for outside audit services after describing delays with the county’s current audit firm.
County Auditor Hollis told the court the county’s previous selection had since merged with another firm and experienced a key resignation, producing an audit process that took nearly a year to complete a review that staff said should have taken about three months. Hollis said a referral was offered informally by the merged firm, but that the referral process was not the correct procurement route, so the auditor requested authority to re-solicit through an RFQ.
The court approved the auditor’s request. The RFQ will require submissions to be received in the county clerk’s office at 100 East Main Street, Suite 102, by 10 a.m. on July 10, 2025; submitted RFQs will be evaluated and ranked on qualifications, and the auditor will return a recommendation to the commissioners court for selection at a later date.
Commissioners voiced support for finding a firm that can complete audits in a timelier manner; no additional constraints or selection criteria beyond the stated qualifications-based evaluation were recorded on the record.
