County approves grants for goat pens and redirects funds to repair Fair Park barn roofs after March damage

Jefferson County approved grants to purchase additional goat pens for the Fair Park and authorized redirected capital funds to repair storm-damaged roofs on the goat and sheep barns.
The Fair Park director applied for and received $4,000 from the Copper Fund for Bridal America and $1,000 from the Wisconsin Association of Fairs to buy 12 additional goat pens. Finance committee reviewed the request and the county board approved the budget amendment by a roll call vote (28 yes, 0 no, 2 absent); the pens were expected in time for the July fair.
Separately, the county addressed March property damage to Fair Park roofs. On March 16, 2025, high winds removed several roof panels and loosened up to 40% of roof fasteners on the goat barn and part of the sheep barn, county staff said. Bids for removal and replacement were solicited; the lowest qualified bidder was CC Group LLC at $89,250. The facilities director recommended an allowance of $20,000 for framing repairs, bringing the estimated project total to $109,250.
The finance committee determined that repairing existing facilities took priority over a previously authorized $30,000 feasibility study and approved applying that $30,000 to roofing repairs. The board approved the roofing repair action by voice vote.
Supervisor Jones moved the grant acceptance and the roofing resolution; both measures were approved following committee recommendations. County staff said the work will proceed and contract sums will be adjusted by change order if needed once all repairs are identified.
