Roswell area FFA chapters score highly at state contests; Early College FFA approved for national travel

The board approved an out-of-state travel request on June 10 for Early College High SchoolFFA to attend the national FFA convention in Indianapolis, Oct. 29–Nov. 1, 2025, and heard a summary of recent competitive successes by Roswell area FFA and CTE students.
Board members introduced the agenda item and the trip request. "I recommend approval of the early college high school FFA out of state travel to Indianapolis...for the national FFA convention," said a staff presenter during the action-item portion of the meeting; the board approved the travel by voice vote.
Cassie Carpenter, Early College agriculture advisor, described the chapter's performance at the state convention and earlier invitational events. "I took 13 students, and all 13 students were able to walk the stage at least once or more than once in the top 5 in the entire state," she said. Students earned placements in agriscience, employment skills, ag communications and public speaking; one student advanced to nationals in agriscience.
Roswell High's ag mechanics and welding program also reported competitive success. An instructor described a recent Texas invitational where Roswell High was the only New Mexico school and finished in the top five, noting the program's unique equipment including a water jet cutter and a high-volume welding pathway.
The board commended students and advisors and approved the national travel request so students who earned state-level qualifications can participate at the national convention.
