Board approves Savvas science textbooks for secondary schools to align with NGSS

The Roswell ISD board on June 10 approved the district's 2025 secondary science textbook adoption, selecting materials from Savvas after a committee review.
Staff said the adoption process involved review committees at different schools and that Savvas scored highly for alignment and for offering both physical lab components and digital materials. "Savvas. Yes, ma'am," one presenter confirmed when asked which publisher was recommended.
Presenters noted that Savvas offers a physical, hands-on lab component in addition to an online portal, and that the materials integrate with the district's learning management system Canvas. A curriculum official said this vertical alignment across middle and high schools was a factor in recommendation and that the publisher had worked with the district previously.
Board members asked whether the increased use of digital materials would create concerns about screen time; staff said Savvas includes a physical lab and that the district will phase in materials beginning with the incoming freshman class so assessments and alignment can be tracked.
The board approved the adoption by motion and will begin implementation with professional learning and rollout this summer and into the coming year.
