County staff install new boardroom voting microphones under AOC grant; broader IT upgrades ongoing

Stephenson County IT staff told the Administration & Legal Affairs Committee that a new wireless microphone and voting system purchased with an AOC technology grant has been installed in the county boardroom and that staff will demonstrate the system before the next county board meeting.
The IT presenter said the new system lets members request to speak and vote from the microphone and shows status lights indicating when a mic is live; he planned a run-through and offered an orientation for committee members prior to the upcoming board meeting. He said the microphone voting feature will display votes on the meeting screen and that microphones will show a green light when live and a red light when waiting.
IT staff also reported broader county upgrades: a countywide switch to the state CrowdStrike cybersecurity platform is mostly finished, health-department server upgrades were expected to finish this week or next, and a nursing-center server remains to be upgraded because of 24/7 operations and a SQL-server database that needs careful migration. Windows 11 upgrades are in progress, and some offices must purchase new PCs that cannot be upgraded. The IT presenter said phone-system rollouts are next and will be done department by department to avoid countywide disruption.
No formal committee action was taken; the presentation served as an update on grant-funded equipment and ongoing IT projects.
