Gardner stadium renovation on track for August jamboree; schools to get new jumbotron

Chris Rideau, the city's parks and recreation superintendent, briefed the council on progress at Gardner Stadium and said the project is roughly four-and-a-half months underway with target completion in time for the high-school jamboree on Aug. 29 if weather permits.
Rideau said completed work includes the shot put pit, long-jump pits, high jump and pole-vault areas and that contractors have installed the track border. New structures under construction include a concession stand, restrooms and a ticket booth on the home side and a visitor's restroom on the opposite side.
Rideau said Healthy Blue of Louisiana donated a new scoreboard/jumbotron with replay capability; he said the schools would be able to sell sponsorships shown on the board during games to generate revenue.
Council members asked for monthly updates; Rideau said the contractor holds site meetings and will report progress at the next council meeting after a June 28 site visit.
