Police Chief Fuentes described the interagency arrangement as part of a joint SWAT operation involving 36 SWAT members from roughly a dozen agencies across Hidalgo County to the island. Chief Fuentes said the MOU would formalize having two Palm Beach firefighters operate as tactical medics and that “having the city of Palm Beach firefighters train and respond with the team is crucial and enhances public and operator safety by utilizing shared resources and expertise in the medical field.”
Chief Fuentes said the city’s SWAT commander would be the point of contact and decision maker for high‑risk operations involving the team. Commissioners moved to approve the MOU and adopted the motion by voice vote; no dissenting votes were recorded on the transcript.
