Board holds LCAP public hearing; adds two actions to deepen community partnerships and communications

The Rescue Union Elementary School District held a public hearing on its Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) on June 10. District staff said the LCAP remains centered on three goals: maximize academic achievement for each student, provide safe student-centered learning environments responsive to social-emotional needs, and maintain infrastructure and systems that support effective learning.

Superintendent and senior staff said the board would not change the three core goals for year two of the three-year LCAP cycle. Instead, the district proposed two new actions under Goal 3: (1) develop and strengthen partnerships with local organizations, businesses and community leaders to match resources and services to students and families; and (2) provide clear communication channels, accessible resources and meaningful engagement opportunities for students, families and community members.

Why it matters: the new actions are intended to make community partnerships regular and systematic rather than episodic. Staff cited recent initiatives that paired schools with local groups such as Hills Church, Flaherty Impact Foundation, Aspire Kids and local laundromat outreach as examples of partnership activity that the district wants to scale and sustain.

Public input and next steps: the district said it had conducted 19 presentations and multiple surveys this year to inform LCAP development. Staff indicated the LCAP proposal and proposed edits will return for board action at the June 17 meeting, alongside the proposed budget and required local indicators reports.
