Human Services Commission reports outreach, housing-connector briefing and local research findings

Kaylee Stevens, a commissioner with the Human Services Commission, briefed council May 27 on the commission's May activities, including coordination with the Covington Library, outreach at the Maker's Market and review of local human-services research.
Stevens said the commission found the library already promotes a resource brochure prepared by the Human Services Commission and that staff discussed where the commission could fill gaps and strengthen partnerships. "We had a really good conversation with the Covington Library and talking about all they offer to the community," Stevens said.
The commission also got a presentation from the Housing Connector (a regional housing navigation service) about tools to reduce barriers to housing and help resident access rental and purchase pathways, Stevens told council. The commission plans a check-in with Lutheran Community Services, an organization that receives commission funding.
Commissioners reviewed the 2024 end-of-service report and a white paper prepared by Central Washington University that identified gaps in local human services; Stevens said the Maker's Market yielded community feedback from residents who were not previously aware of the commission's work.
No council action was taken; the briefing was informational.
