Beverly High School seeks approval for student trip to France and Monaco in February 2026

Beverly High School French teacher Catherine Spoelstra presented a proposed student trip to France and Monaco for February 2026 and the school committee voted to allow the itinerary to move forward.
The itinerary includes Paris museum visits (Louvre, Musée d’Orsay), travel to Provence with Roman‑era sites in Nîmes and Avignon, and time on the French Riviera including Nice and Monaco with a factory tour option. Spoelstra said the trip will be open to current and former BHS French students and that she will require pre-trip sessions to prepare students on useful phrases, monuments and the art they will see.
Spoelstra said a tour operator (ACIS) will arrange hotels and logistics, and she plans fundraising to lower costs; she noted a 20-student minimum for private tours and that at least five chaperones are needed to cover staffing costs. The district indicated it will review student health records to determine whether a school nurse should accompany the group and that the nurse team will advise on medical staffing for the trip.
Committee members discussed fundraising, nurse participation and chaperone planning; the committee approved the trip to proceed to enrollment and fundraising.
