City council approved a lease agreement with Bristol Residential LLC that will allow the Senior Center to continue operating in space within the Douglas School Apartments.
City staff reported the city’s prior lease had expired but the Senior Center had continued to use the space. The new lease is effective July 1, 2024, and will run through February of an agreed year, with an annual value roughly $20,000 that will be offset against interest on notes the owner owes the city. Staff said about $874,000 remains owed to the city on those notes and will be paid when the notes mature.
Council members emphasized the importance of continuity for senior services; staff and the new owners confirmed operations would continue with no immediate changes. Council also asked that signage and other references preserve the historic spelling “Douglas” where applicable. The lease was approved by roll call and the Senior Center will remain in place while formal notes and offsets are finalized.
