Plan commission approves two downtown sign permits; commissioners question size and lighting

The Hinsdale Plan Commission approved two separate downtown sign permits on June 11: a rebranding sign package for a med spa at 22 West First Street and a replacement wall sign for Pronto Sandwiches at 114 South Washington Street.

For 22 West First Street the applicant said the work is an identity/name change and would be a like‑for‑like replacement of existing signage. The installer said letters on the side sign would be 10 inches tall and the full side sign 2 feet 10 inches; the front door letters would be 8 inches. Commissioners asked about the increase in letter size and readability with a thin font; the installer said larger letters made the logo legible. A timer will control sign illumination. Commissioners voted to approve Case A‑21‑2025 as submitted.

At 114 South Washington Street Peter Berti, representing Pronto Sandwiches, said the new sign replaces an existing sign and takes about 65% of the allowable facade square footage for one tenant, leaving the other tenant roughly 35% of the allocation. Commissioners confirmed the parties had coordinated and that the sign met size limits; staff said the projecting sign required a separate plan‑commission review at the next meeting and that the applicant would supply a LED sheet to select a warmer light color. Commissioners asked that the illumination be lowered from 4,100 Kelvin to 3,500 Kelvin; the applicant agreed to contact the sign company after the meeting to adjust to a warmer color. The commission approved Case A‑26‑2025 with the stipulation that the halo illumination be reduced to 3,500K.
