Board releases draft math standards for public review with board-member addendum after process debate

As a compromise, the board approved an amendment (11–3) to release the draft mathematics standards for public review and to include as an addendum the recommendations made separately by several board members for public comment; the transcript records the amendment vote as 11 in favor and 3 opposed (those opposed named as Member August, Member Carey, and Vice Chair Wood). Board members who supported the addendum said it will allow the public to respond to both the writing committee’s draft and a small set of board-proposed recommendations without eliminating the committee’s work.
