Members of the Natchitoches Historic District Commission agreed with a revised lighting and sign approach proposed by 7 Brew Coffee House that reduces visual impact on surrounding residences.
The change matters for neighborhood character: commissioners and staff said the revised option would hide direct neon-style lighting and use concealed uplighting at reduced intensity, lessening light spill into adjacent properties.
Miss Rock, speaking for the commission, described four options from 7 Brew and said the commission selected option 2, which eliminates a north-side sign facing a residence and hides building-mounted lights within a canopy so the light is directed upward onto the sign rather than shining outward. Rock said the applicant also agreed to make LED accent lighting around the roof and canopy operate at 80% of full capacity and turn the lighting off at closing.
The commission described the decision as a consensus reached in communications with the applicant; no formal motion or vote was required. Rock said the applicant “appreciated what you guys submitted and they would be that's what they're gonna go with, what you decided.”
Commissioners noted the arrangement reduces potential nuisance lighting and that the applicant agreed to the commitments discussed at the meeting.
