The change, presented by Vicki Parrish, responds to long-term water seepage that has rotted window shafts and a beam above the openings. Parrish said the proposed units will match the existing mullion shapes and sizes and that “the look will be identical.” She said the new windows will be fixed (will not open) and that the existing wrought-iron elements will remain in place.
The commission approved the application by voice vote after a motion by Mr. Donahoe and a second from Melissa Robinson. Commissioners did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript; the chair called for all those in favor and received “Aye.”
Parrish told the commission that Marion (staff) and the church’s carpenter, Tommy Covington, inspected the area and that Covington will perform the work. She said the church intends to replace the rotted beams that span the tops of the windows as part of the project and later return to the commission with proposals for additional work on the bell tower and other parts of the building.
