Supervisor urges city to remove vandalized airport terminal amid resident safety concerns

Russ Perlak, who said he represents the Fourth District of Wood County and lives three blocks from the vacant airport terminal, asked the Marshfield Common Council on June 10 to accelerate demolition or otherwise remove a vandalized, abandoned terminal building.
“I like to see it done sooner, and I'm encouraging the city if if there's something that they could do as in some time some type of an incentive to get that building down because the people are really getting concerned about, the traffic that's going through there,” Perlak said during public comment. He said people in the area worry vandalism and trespassing could “overflow into their area.”
Perlak said he had discussed the matter with city staff and heard there may be plans to demolish the structure but that the timeline could extend to 2028; he asked the council to consider incentives or other steps to accelerate removal for neighborhood safety and quality-of-life reasons.
At the council’s suggestions-for-future-agendas segment, Alderman Varshall asked staff for more detail and a time frame for the vacant airport hangar and whether it should be torn down. The council did not vote or commit to a demolition plan during the meeting; staff follow-up was requested.
