Commissioners approve vehicle transfer, meeting relocation and driveway variance in routine business

At their meeting the Henry County commissioners approved several routine administrative items by voice vote.

The commission approved an interdepartmental transfer of a pickup truck formerly assigned to the building inspector to Memorial Park to replace aging utility vehicles. A parks representative (unnamed) said one of the park’s small utility vehicles was nearly unusable and the transferred truck would help with smaller jobs; the motion to transfer carried 3-0.

Commissioners also approved relocating future meetings to the sheriff’s office conference room while the courthouse second floor undergoes demolition and remodeling. A county official (unnamed) said the second floor would be closed during the renovations; the commission voted 3-0 to hold meetings in the sheriff’s department conference room in the immediate future.

Finally, the commission approved a variance for a driveway relocation requested by Jordan Chew. County staff reviewed site geometry and sight‑distance considerations; as discussed, the road section has a statutory 55 mph maximum where unposted but curves reduce travel speeds locally. Staff said the ordinance’s sight‑distance guidelines (including a 300‑foot sight‑distance reference) would be met given the curve and expected speeds; commissioners voted 3-0 to grant the variance.

All three items were routine approvals with no recorded dissent. Commissioners and staff noted follow‑up administrative processing (vehicle transfer paperwork, scheduling meetings at the sheriff's office, and permitting paperwork for the driveway variance) but did not attach additional conditions on the record.
