The funding will expand the DA’s deflection program—currently staffed by Dana Betcher—to add personnel and increase capacity to support individuals with substance‑use disorders and to provide case management, treatment referrals and aftercare, including coordination with out‑of‑county inpatient treatment placements.
Administrator Leonard said the awards are pass‑through federal dollars administered by the state and that the grants are multiyear; only the portion allocated to 2025 will be accepted now, with later years to be included in subsequent budgets if the awards continue. The committee noted the grants require no local match and recommended forwarding the budget amendment to the full county board. The motion passed unanimously.
