Treasurer reports on motor-pool staffing, delayed billing and tax-rate changes; commissioners accept March report

Gallatin County Treasurer Horton presented the March 2025 treasury report on May 27, updating commissioners on motor-pool reporting, delayed personal property and mobile-home billing, and recent tax-rate changes linked to the 2025 legislative session.
Horton told the commission March motor-pool numbers were incomplete because of mixed data from two reporting systems and said a fuller report will be available after April. She said motor-vehicle staffing should be fully restored by June and that personal property and mobile-home bills were delayed while the county awaited downloads from the DOR; those bills are expected to be late June.
On legislative changes to tax rates, Horton said assessment notices from the Department of Revenue were going out late in June and the office will be able to refine budget projections at the next meeting. Regarding specific rates, Horton said she was still reading the statutes but indicated the structure will include stepped rates for different property types; she said she would provide a full report next time.
The commission opened public comment, heard none, and a commissioner moved to accept the treasurer's report for March 2025. The commission approved the motion by voice vote.
