Rio Rico project goes to bid; Sonoita phone and printing services restored, community room reservations open

During the meeting library staff and trustees reviewed branch-level facilities and services. A trustee said she had spoken with Deputy Supervisor Chris Young and learned the "opening between" (a small project to open a gap behind stacks into a small room) at the Rio Rico branch has been put out to bid. "I guess that's progress," the trustee said; she added the county may choose to perform the work through county crews or an outside contractor because the building is county-owned.

Sonoita’s telephone system and a printer, both previously out of service, have been restored. Staff described the printing workflow: patrons email documents to a branch-specific library email address and clerks print them; in-branch public computers cannot print directly because those machines are managed through the county workforce system. Staff confirmed copy charges apply at all branches (15¢ per black-and-white page, 30¢ per color page).

The board also reported that a bulletin board will be installed by the clerk’s desk at one branch and that the community room is available for reservation through the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds/rodeo association; the room can be reserved for after-hours events though the library does not schedule those reservations directly. Trustees said additional tables and chairs are budgeted to arrive in July with the new fiscal year and that funds will be available for shelving or other needs.
