Nogales library board approves nominations for two seats; accepting resignation of member Christian Hernandez

At a meeting of the Nogales Library Board of Trustees, members voted to renominate Juanita Havel and to nominate Mary Darling and Renee Curran to fill board vacancies. The chair said Havel’s term expires this month and asked for a motion to renominate her and forward the nomination to the county board of supervisors; the motion was moved by Pancho and seconded by Omar. The chair called the voice vote: "Aye. Aye. Opposed? None. Motion carries."

The board then received a resignation from Christian Hernandez. "My work schedule has become very busy and I am no longer able to make a commitment to the board," Hernandez wrote, the chair read. The resignation creates an additional vacancy on the board.

Later the board nominated Mary Darling as an at-large trustee and Renee Curran to represent the Rio Rico seat. The motion to nominate Darling was moved and seconded; the board approved by voice vote and the chair said Darling’s nomination will be taken to the City of Nogales council. Renee Curran’s nomination, moved by Pancho and seconded by Juanita Havel, was approved and will be forwarded to the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors for the Rio Rico seat.

During discussion, members clarified term lengths and appointment timing. A trustee asked whether terms are retroactive to the prior seat-holder or start at appointment; board members confirmed appointments create three-year terms from the appointment date. The board noted that several documents (including signed bylaws) have been circulated among members.
