Maple Heights superintendent reports summer school, meal program and outreach plans

Superintendent Dela Flores told the Maple Heights Board of Education on June 9 that the district has begun summer school across all buildings, is operating a summer-meal program open to the public, and will staff community outreach at Music in the Park events this summer.
Dela Flores said summer school runs roughly 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and students enrolled in an extended program remain until about 2:30 p.m. She said the district is running a program called "20 century learning" at Obama and at the middle school. The summer meal program, she said, is open to everyone — not only Maple Heights students — and families may come for lunch during the summer.
Administrators met recently for district leadership training and an administrative professional-development retreat to finalize school-improvement planning before the summer break, Dela Flores said. The district plans to have a presence at Music in the Park nights on June 17, July 1 and in August; staff will bring Chromebooks and hope to have hotspots available to help families complete enrollment forms or submit required documentation.
"If we need to get families signed up to attend school or at least get their final forms, applications up and running, we will be there," Dela Flores said. The superintendent said flyers and social-media notices will inform families of the outreach schedule.
The board did not take action on the superintendent's report; the remarks were informational.
