The Millersville Borough Council authorized advertising for bids on a traffic-signal upgrade for Cottage Avenue to add a loop detector as part of an upcoming paving project.
Officials told council the engineering work is complete and the borough has received a permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Borough staff said they plan to close bidding around July 2 and expect to award the construction contract at the council meeting on July 8 so that the signal work can be completed before Cottage Avenue is paved later in the month.
Council members voted to authorize advertising the project. Borough staff said the timing is important because the loop installation must be done before paving and that additional public notification about the paving schedule will be posted on the borough website.
The project follows prior council direction to adjust a line-item in the FY budget to include the loop signal beneath Cottage Avenue and will move to the procurement stage after advertising.
