Parks staff requested board support to hire seasonal employees to run the summer day program. The agenda packet and the presenter listed hiring requests for 35 high‑school students and 17 college‑age students for a seven‑week program at 32 hours per week; the recorded wage figures in the meeting audio were garbled in one place, but the presenter’s packet listed student hourly rates and training requirements. Supervisors also approved advertising for additional program assistants and new lifeguard recruitment after some previously hired lifeguards were not available.
The board approved a partnership with the YMCA of Greater Memphis to provide breakfast and lunch at county community centers from May 24 through Aug. 2 as part of the program. The presenter clarified that participating sites would provide breakfast and lunch and that the YMCA would also supply bags with seven days’ worth of shelf‑stable food for pickup when noted in the program schedule.
Supervisors also approved travel for program participants and staff to a series of field trips and for staff training, and they approved related administrative motions presented on the agenda. Motions on these items were approved by voice vote at the meeting.
