The Tunica County Board of Supervisors on May 29 authorized the Road and Bridge Department to purchase two portable MB-959757 digital message boards from K and K Systems, received an update on planned striping of U.S. 61, and approved a repair payment for North Tunica engine 4.
Road and Bridge requested the message-board purchase to replace units damaged in storms. The boards are LED with optional solar and battery backup; staff said they can be programmed and placed at either end of work zones. "We can program it to whatever you want it to say," said Miss Stewart, Road and Bridge representative. The board approved the purchase by voice vote.
Stewart also reported that, weather permitting, striping crews would paint U.S. 61 from the county line to Casino Strip Resorts Boulevard and then re-evaluate other segments. She clarified these are state-aid routes and that the state contractor will stripe some sections, including near the ERVR Bridge.
The board approved a payment to EEP for repairs to North Tunica engine 4 in the amount of $4,002.38 pursuant to statute 19-5-97. The motion to approve that payment carried by voice vote.
Stewart described median cleaning and landscaping work underway on U.S. 61 and said contractors began work on county facilities for grounds upkeep, including admin, library and planning buildings; the county will evaluate longer-term landscaping solutions for several gateways and medians.
No changes to speed limits or permanent signage were recorded in the meeting excerpt; equipment purchases and maintenance plans were the actions recorded.
