Board approves i-Ready diagnostic and personalized instruction for six sites, purchases 50 EL licenses for others

The Eureka Union Board approved a three-year contract for i-Ready diagnostic assessments and personalized instruction for six district sites, and authorized the purchase of 50 student licenses for English learners at schools that declined full participation.

Leslie Day, the district's IT coordinator, presented the item and said staff and teachers piloted the diagnostic and personalized instruction. "We had the chance to pilot the personalized instruction piece ... 6 of our sites have decided they would like to move forward with 3 year contract with both the diagnostic and the personalized instruction," Day said. She added the district would purchase 50 licenses for English learners at sites that opted not to adopt the full program because staff found the tool beneficial for that subgroup.

Trustee Holt asked why some schools chose not to participate. Day said one school, Olympus, uses other applications the school created and uses Delta Math; Cabot chose to adopt i-Ready after testing it. Day described Zern (as stated during the meeting) as a district'approved option and said Delta Math does not include the same individualized diagnostic-driven differentiation that i-Ready provides. Board members indicated the implementation would be monitored annually.

Trustee Holt moved to approve the i-Ready assessments and personalized instruction contracts and the purchase of the 50 English-learner licenses; Trustee Grover seconded the motion. The board voted unanimously to approve the recommendation.
