Lee County engineer reports bridge bundling wins, local project applications and upcoming recycling contract bids

Dave Anderson, Lee County transportation and solid-waste liaison, updated the County Services Committee on road, bridge and recycling work and said several projects are moving forward.
Anderson said he submitted roughly five projects totaling a little over $5 million to the Illinois Department of Transportation’s local project funding portal, which is part of a statewide $400 million program. “I kinda felt good about that, but ... the projects that were submitted were probably 10 times the amount of funding available,” he said, adding competition is intense and outcomes are uncertain.
He also said IDOT’s off‑system bridge bundling program initially included about 30–40 potential bridges in Lee County and that “at least initially, we've got, 4 projects on that list, and IDOT's taken care of everything from, design to construction on those.” Anderson estimated the bridges represent about $3 million in work and said project delivery could be “at least 2 years away.”
On county work, Anderson said township hot‑mix jobs are complete for the month, a recycled overlay on Perry Road (Golden Place recycling job) is waiting for proper moisture before hot‑mix can be placed, a preconstruction meeting for a Brooklyn Road bridge north of Route 30 is scheduled with contractor start anticipated June 17, and the county will seek bids next month for a three‑year drop‑off recycling contract that expires Sept. 1.
Anderson also noted the county recently hired a mechanic and thanked staff who assisted with onboarding. He said the county will attempt to let another township bridge project for construction before winter if schedules allow.
No formal committee actions were taken on the engineering items during this meeting.
