Jordan, a staff member, said the running-lines quote came from Jeremy and explained the estimate: “That quote just for running all the lines was 39,000. That would be 4 or 5 pulls on each side. So, that's about a $123,000 for all of that. And then there's also the pedestals, which he's going to be providing an additional quote for the pedestals.”
Council members and staff discussed alternatives to replacing existing poles, including painting the newer poles black to match downtown aesthetic and adding banner or flag hardware for veterans’ branches at existing flagpoles. One councilmember suggested checking whether existing poles can accept accessories and whether painting them is feasible without sandblasting and removal.
Staff proposed getting additional quotes for benches, trash receptacles, pedestal hardware and paint, and to contact vendors such as Cutting Edge and Van Meter for recommendations. A councilmember asked staff to consult Emily at Main Street for feedback from downtown businesses about the proposed changes before making purchases.
No formal votes were taken; the agenda item was a discussion and staff was directed to obtain quotes and return with options and cost estimates.
