Parents seek better support for high-school golf program and complain about in-district transfer process

During the public-comment portion of the La Porte ISD Board of Trustees meeting on June 10, two residents addressed district procedures and student programs.

Chris Raines, who identified himself with an address on Valley View Drive, urged the board to provide more support for the district's golf program. Raines said the program lacks practice facilities at school, needs better transportation to practice and tournaments, and has insufficient storage for expensive golf bags and equipment. He told the board the program receives only about $2,400 split between boys and girls and relies heavily on booster-club fundraising and parental support for tournament expenses. "Transportation, a place to train, and just a little bit more support," he said, summarizing his requests.

A second speaker, Jana Cambron, spoke about in-district transfer applications for junior high. Cambron said online application links promised in February and April were not posted as advertised, that district offices gave inconsistent information, and that when she submitted an application she received a near-immediate denial with minimal explanation. She described repeated calls and confusion about the correct application process and requested clearer communication and timely posting of application links.

Board members thanked both speakers and reminded the audience that board members do not respond during the public-comment period; trustees asked staff to follow up through district channels and encouraged families to use established resolution processes for complaints.

The board did not take formal action on these public comments during the meeting.
