High school renovation and Legacy Complex move-in on schedule; district to gain stadium parking and facilities

La Porte ISD staff updated the board Tuesday on active construction at La Porte High School and the Legacy Complex, reporting demolition and permitting are complete and that interior build-out is proceeding on schedule for summer 2026 occupancy targets.
A district staff presenter said construction started in May 2025 and noted visible work: temporary fencing, demolition in the commons and stadium-area changes. The district sold portable modulars and relocated front-office staff to CTE space; some modular classroom units were due to arrive in the coming week, the presenter said.
Staff described progress on the new field house, weight room installations and partition work in the Legacy Complex; the project manager said the district expects the new facilities to be ready for move-in in July 2026. The district also reported a recent bond sale (June 4) that will fund parts of the capital program.
One trustee asked about parking counts and handicapped spaces in the junior lot; staff said the final counts were available in the project office and that the district plans to add accessible parking as the work continues. Staff also said bus staging had been relocated to the back of the high school during construction and that the senior-junior lots would be phased open as fencing is moved.
Trustees were invited to schedule site visits as construction continues. The board discussed naming the Legacy Complex; staff noted the board makes naming decisions and the district has been using "Legacy Complex" as a working name while construction proceeds.
