Edinburg CISD honors students and student athletic‑training teams for regional and state qualification

The Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees opened its June 2 meeting recognizing students, academic teams and athletic training students who advanced to regional and state competition.
Antonio Ballesteros introduced academic recognitions across the district, citing qualifiers from Robert Vela High School, Edinburg High School, and Edinburg North High School who advanced to UIL regional and state competitions in subjects including calculator applications, science, accounting, literary criticism and ready writing. Ballesteros named individual qualifiers and coaches during the board’s awards segment.
The board also recognized student athletic trainers from Economedes High School who competed at the Texas State Athletic Trainers Association student trainer competition in Arlington. Athletic trainer Dan Atua described the team’s advancement as the first time a program from the district advanced to that state competition; he named the students recognized by the district and thanked board members, administrators and parents for support.
Tennis coaches and players from Edinburg High School and Economedes (the Jaguars) were recognized for regional tournament finishes. Coaches singled out doubles players Eli Gaona and Lisandro Moreno as top district performers and noted their regional UIL participation.
Ending: Trustees praised the students and coaches for their accomplishments and asked staff to continue public recognition of academic and athletic achievements across the district.
