Fire chief introduces two newly promoted company officers

Fire Chief Sean Whitcup introduced two newly promoted company officers to the Defiance City Council meeting Tuesday and asked the council to join him in congratulating them.
Whitcup called company officers “one of the most challenging yet rewarding roles in the fire service” and said they “make critical decisions in compressed time frames, and they do it flawlessly every day.” He outlined the qualifications of Captain Brandon Case and Lieutenant Roy Perez and described their roles as instructors, rescue technicians and paramedics.
Whitcup said Case has been in the fire service in Defiance since 2008, holds Fire Officer I–III certifications, serves as a live-fire instructor and is respected for “well thought out solutions to current and future trends in the fire division.” Whitcup said Perez has been a full-time member since 2007, is a state-certified instructor and a technical rescue technician who helps ensure the department has the right supplies for emergency medical needs.
Whitcup asked the council for its support in the department’s ongoing efforts to train and lead its crews and closed by urging the officers to “be all in” and “take care of your community.” The council received the introduction; there was no formal vote on the promotions recorded in the meeting transcript.
