Vigo County Library reports steady use at 12 Points branch and strong summer reading registrations

Interim Vigo County Public Library director Jordan Orwig updated the council on usage and programs at the system’s 12 Points branch, which opened Oct. 28, 2024.
"Since then, we have seen 649 new library cards," Orwig said, reporting the count through the day before the meeting and noting the number may have increased by the time of the report. He described wide community use of the branch’s meeting rooms, indoor slide and teaching kitchen, and said the branch hosts groups such as Girl Scout troops, recovery peer specialists and local gardeners.
Orwig told the council the library system has more than 1,700 summer reading registrations systemwide—about halfway to the goal of 3,000—and reported more than 100 programs and roughly 400 program attendees at the 12 Points branch alone. He said a splash pad and cleanup space have been opened this spring and that the library is filling part‑time positions to support summer activity.
The library asked council members to visit the 12 Points branch and offered to provide tours. No council action was required; the item was an informational update.
