Residents report problems with new docks, park infields; city staff say adjustments planned

A Sandusky resident told the Sandusky Boards & Commissions that boater groups and local teams have reported problems with the city's newly installed docks and that several infields need reworking.
"I use the boat ramp twice a year. ... there needs to be some adjustments to those docks," Tim Schwander, a resident of 362 Sheffield Way, said, describing complaints he had received from visiting boaters and a coordinator from Akron.
Schwander identified a coordinator named Jamie Hoffe from North Coast Offshore Powerboats and said the group frequently uses Sandusky ramps. "He brings anywhere from 7 to 12 boats," Schwander said.
Parks staff responded that they have been in contact with Mr. Hoffe and the city manager and are planning adjustments. "We have been in contact with mister Hoffy. He's been in contact with city manager myself, and we're looking to make adjustments, as per his request," Parks staff member Chris said.
Schwander also flagged weeds and grass growing in infields at Kiwanis Park and Heron Park and reported that a citizen was told the city quoted a charge to turn over dirt on a field. Parks staff said field-turning is governed by priority maintenance agreements with organizations such as AMVETS, the schools and local leagues and that fields are prepared at the start of a group's season.
Parks staff explained staffing constraints and scheduling for field work. "Our crew goes home at 3. I advised that we get out there when we have the manpower and the equipment ready to go drag those fields," Chris said. He added the city can offer field rental for groups that need more regular preparation.
