Shelter task force says partners nearing agreement; final recommendation expected in October

The Bridal Shelter Task Force president, Dave Minor, told the council the group is "inside the 10 yard line. We're probably inside the 5 yard line" toward a final recommendation on shelter operations and facilities. Minor said three organizations — Bridal Allies, ARF and the humane society — "have basically agreed upon" a framework and are doing due diligence to determine how they might combine responsibilities.
Minor said the task force was unable to present a final recommendation tonight but expects to return with a recommendation in October. Councilor McKenzie praised the task force members and staff for their work and said he believed the recommendation that comes from the group "is gonna be a good one." Mayor Ross said the hard work remains in building a new shelter but expressed confidence in the task force’s leadership and direction.
No formal council action was taken; the item was an informational update and the task force will return with its final recommendation at a future meeting.
