Council approves on-call services contract award to R.E. Magnuson; councilors ask for bid and vendor details

The Superior Common Council approved an on-call services contract award to R.E. Magnuson at its Aug. 17, 2010 meeting, and councilors asked city staff to provide additional bid details and vendor information.
Assistant Public Works Director Getzmann presented the award, noting the previous contractor had gone out of business and the city selected the next lowest bidder. Councilor McKenzie and Councilor Olson asked for specifics on the contract scope, the bidder’s locality and insurance and bonding status. “I see we're, you know, you went to the lowest bidder, but I don't see anything on here about cost,” McKenzie said; Olson asked whether R.E. Magnuson was local and carried insurance.
Staff responded that the contract covers multiple service categories — from lawn mowing to boarding abandoned homes and illegal-dumping cleanup — and that the city would provide the detailed bid breakdown on request. Getzmann said the vendor qualified under the city's bidding rules and carries required insurance; a staff member offered to supply the bidder’s company name and additional documentation after the meeting.
The motion to award on-call services to R.E. Magnuson passed on voice vote.
